ABSTRACT

Julian Tudor Hart commenced his medical education at the University of Cambridge in 1947 and completed his clinical training at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London. He graduated in 1952. Whilst he was a house officer, he worked at Kettering and Watford General Hospitals. With an enthusiasm for epidemiology and support from his friend, former patient and honorary fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, Sir Richard Doll, Tudor Hart embarked on a two-year period of epidemiological research. He initially worked under Doll and later under Archie Cochrane. The treatment of patients was something that Tudor Hart missed and so, in 1961, he relocated to Glyncorrwg, a small mining village in West Glamorgan, South Wales. Since his early days as a general practitioner, Tudor Hart had a keen interest in hypertension and how it should best be managed in general practice.
