ABSTRACT

In the past, mining method or open-cut method were widely used which proved inefficient and unsafe. Therefore prompt solution is urgently needed in order to realize mechanized construction. Based on the project of Baicheng Tunnel of Menghua Railway, this paper briefly describes the background and project overview of the horseshoe-shaped shield machine, expounds the main problems in its design, and explores its key technology which includes low disturbance multi-cutterhead and multi-drive cooperative excavation technology, multi-curvature segment erection technology, efficient muck discharge system, horseshoe-shaped shell design, anti-roll attitude control technology, etc. Besides, it also summarizes the engineering application of the shield machine, analyzes the problems occurred during engineering test, and carries out targeted optimization design to provide reference for future horseshoe-shaped shield machines.
