ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author talks about Jurgen Klopp. Klopp was appointed manager of Liverpool Football Club on October 8, 2015. Klopp changed the mood inside and outside the club very quickly, and although Liverpool's form in the Premier League is patchy and marred by inconsistency, they have reached the finals of two competitions, the Carling Cup and the Europa League. Liverpool had embarked on an improbable Europa League run, defeating historic rivals Manchester United, Klopp's former team Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal in the semi-final. Klopp knows a good deal about backpacks, as his 1995 sports thesis was called "Walking—Bestandsaufnahme und Evaluationsstudie einer Sportart fur alle." There is a strong strand of Heideggerian resoluteness in Klopp as well as an obsessive work ethic. Thomas Tuchel, Klopp's former assistant and successor as manager at Dortmund, described the result as "illogical."
