ABSTRACT

In this workbook, we demonstrate the use of the SAS statistical software package to answer some of the questions. Learning statistical software is not the purpose of this book, but we introduce the use of statistical software as an important tool in data analysis as students learn statistical concepts. This lab provides a beginner’s guide to using SAS software; it assumes no previous knowledge of SAS or any statistical software program. It begins with technical aspects, such as the layout of the program and menu navigation, and moves on to the topic of importing data into the program and performing various procedures on the data related to data management, data cleaning, and variable recoding and labeling. Sample code is given for descriptive statistics (Chapter 1) and graphing procedures. Users begin to understand the SAS programming language and coding structure through experiential examples. SAS datasets (with codebooks) used in this lab and throughout the text are available for download from the book website.
