ABSTRACT
This lab consists of eight practice problems covering the material from Chapter 7. It allows readers experiential learning opportunities to address clinical and public health problems that lend themselves to one-sample hypothesis testing. The lab also emphasizes the importance of choosing the correct statistical test based on the study design and data available; this requires readers to understand test assumptions. Some problems can be completed by hand, whereas others require the use of statistical software (e.g., Stata, SAS), but all can be checked in statistical software using datasets provided on the website (data are available in both SAS and Stata format). Hand calculation ensures that readers understand statistical concepts, but the use of statistical software is encouraged to allow readers to become familiar with using a statistical software program to conduct data analysis and to learn how to read output. Emphasis is placed on drawing conclusions in the context of the hypothesis being tested.
