ABSTRACT

Learning materials and resources include visual aids such as handouts and slides, which include text, diagrams and pictures, plus other media such as audio, video and animations. All of the factors indicate that the student body is becoming more diverse and that many students will have come to Higher Education via different entry routes and may have very different types of entry qualification. One of the biggest drivers for lecture recording in universities has been to provide greater support for diverse student communities through supplementing existing digital resources with recordings of lectures. Handouts can be used to support many different types of teaching session: lectures, tutorials, problem classes or seminars, and practical or laboratory-based classes. In 2016, a review of the university Accessible and Inclusive Learning Policy at University of Edinburgh made the central provision of a lecture recording solution one of the main recommendations.
