ABSTRACT

Relatively little is known about the operation of legacy in the longer term because there have been few sustained attempts to capture, analyse and understand outcomes over such a period. This is in part because legacy management practices and protocols are still evolving. The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Guide on Olympic Legacy , for instance, only appeared for the first time in 2009. However, an increased IOC emphasis on legacy in the past few years (see below) has elevated the importance of legacy.
