ABSTRACT
It is no secret when I say that tens of our Palestinian society leaders inside [i.e. within Israel] have been targeted. And who targets them is not a legendary ghost, but a known authority . . . that has abilities that might cause children’s hair to turn gray. It would tape our telephone conversations, detect our movements while up the road, secretly listen from a great distance to our public and private meetings using highly sensitive surveillance tools, and is able to determine each of our exact locations through our mobile phones. One funny incident that happened to me after my release from jail is this: I was traveling with Dr. Suliman. We were fasting and it was about the time of “iftar,” so we decided to eat in Restaurant X, but before we entered we called Sheikh Kamal through his mobile phone and invited him to join us. A few minutes later, we arrived at Restaurant X. After a short time a stranger entered and sat at a nearby table. A few minutes passed and another stranger entered and sat at a different nearby table. Out of either caution or curiosity, I asked the restaurant’s owner, “Are these two strangers journalists?” He smiled and answered, “I don’t know. This is the first time they have entered my restaurant!” I said to myself, “I know who they are. They arrived after our conversation with Sheikh Kamal. The conversation was tapped, which is nothing new.”
