ABSTRACT

This chapter shows a map of the whole of Leo, one of the most imposing of the Zodiacal constellations. Leo is marked by the curved line of stars known as the Sickle; Regulus is the brightest member. The Mira variable R Leonis lies above and to the right of Regulus. The other principal stars of Leo form a triangle, below and to the left of the Sickle; they are Beta or Denebola, Delta and Theta. Close to Regulus are CX Leonis, DE and TX. All three have variable star designations, but in each case the range is no more than a tenth of a magnitude. Denebola makes up part of the boundary of the bowl of Virgo, which abounds in galaxies. Parts of Canes Venatici, Ursa Major, Cancer, Sextans and Hydra appear on the present map; the famous open cluster M44 is just included at the top right hand corner.
