ABSTRACT

As for the Gorlitz patient. His parents, good souls, did, however, induce me to make the journey to the institution only by concealing something. Only once there did I find out that he also hallucinates voices, and thus exceeds the frame of hysteria/obsessional neurosis. I observed one attack myself, it is immensely instructive in that it repre sents a coitus or, rather, his rage at such an act of coitus observed by him [obviously between the parents].1 His spitting is sperm-ejaculation. The whole thing is very transparent; tragic for his fate, and of extreme inter est for our views, is the organic accompaniment of and reason for his repudiation of sexuality-the infantility of his genitals. It was because of the latter that I held out so little hope of recovery to his parents; but then they will be very content with improvements. There is surely no doubt that the case must be regarded as dementia praecox; but the relationship of the latter to hysteria and obsessional neurosis undeniably also comes to the fore.
