ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a first step towards a subsequent education for life concept. It focuses on the development of practical implications of the art of living on education. The chapter discusses that various skills and forms of knowledge are important for the development of an own art of living and a potential good and beautiful life. The fundamental theoretical areas will be explored, such as hermeneutical skills, the concept of Bildung, religion and spirituality, as well as practical implications, including a teacher's personality, teaching methods and school and classroom settings. An education for life is understood as a student-centred approach and focuses on the well-being and flourishing of the individual by supporting the development of an own art of living. Beyond the skills for lifelong learning and (scientific and general) knowledge, a holistic educational concept needs to take into account a wider range of aspects of human life.
