ABSTRACT
The material in this chapter concerns those conditions that are caused by a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome. The majority of these conditions are recessive, but there are also X-linked conditions that follow a dominant pattern of inheritance. The phenomenon of X-inactivation (section 10.7) can make the counseling for X-linked recessive conditions complex because of the variability of effect in the carrier females.
