ABSTRACT

Resiliency Theory provides a framework that promotes strength-building. This theory supports a strengths-based model of scaffolding interventions that promote healthy development, with an emphasis on positive factors that help overcome negative effects of risk exposure. Resiliency Theory incorporates variables referred to as promotive factors, with the two promotive factors known as resources and assets. Aspects of the activity, including positive thinking, strength-building, and making common connections, are guided by Resiliency Theory. Building resilience within group members is important because individuals who learn coping skills derived from their own core traits in the context of a supportive group setting may develop attributes that extend to them making healthy behavior choices, while overcoming negative risk exposure. Group members who appeared to struggle developing a word to write on their link were approached by other group members who provided assistance in resilience trait word development. Group members further provided feedback that this activity gave insight for group members into personal traits of resilience.
