ABSTRACT

There are 4 genera, and 13 species recognized in our area: Halophryne mollis, Linophryne algibarbata, Linophryne arborifera, Linophryne bicornis, Linophryne brevibarbarata, Linophryne cornata, Linophryne lucifer, Linophryne densiramus, Linophryne masculine, Linphryne macrodon, Linophryne pennibarbata, Linophryne racemifera, Photocorynus spiniceps, and Edriolychnus schmidti. Of the Linophrynidae the genus Linophryne were revised by Bertelsen (1980,1981,1982) with a new species listed in our area Linophryne lucifer (Bertelsen 1982). This family possesses parasitic males. This is one group of ceratioids where males are well represented except for L. pennibarbata and L. racemifera. Males have been observed attached by their mouths to the female’s body. For all taxa except L. pennibarbarata and L. racemifera males are known. Metamorphosed male/female observed (in SL): Halophryne mollis 1.5 cm/7 cm, L.. algibarbata 2.9 cm/18.2 cm, L. arborifera 1.5 cm /7.7 cm, L.. bicornis 3 cm/18.5 cm, L. brevibarbarata 1.9 cm/10 cm, L. cornata 2.6 cm/ 22.5 cm, L. densiramus 0.9 cm/6.7 cm, Photocorynus spiniceps 1.0 cm/6.9 cm (Pietsch 20031). For; L. pennibarbata (female SL) 4.7 cm, L. racemifera female to 8.1 cm.
