ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the history of liposomes and their recent applications in nanomedicine. As the eld of liposomology has evolved over the past 50 years, it is impossible to comprehensively address every topic here. Readers are thus encouraged to refer to reviews in the literature, henceforth, regarding topics and techniques that are not discussed in detail here. While a general review of liposomes as nanocarriers of antimycotic, antineoplastic, and antimicrobial agents will be discussed throughout the text, the main aim of this chapter is the discussion of liposome-loaded antibiotics, which have been under development and increasingly cited in the literature over the last decade.
