ABSTRACT

The games and activities in this chapter aim to help with listening in general, and to focus particularly on auditory discrimination and auditory memory. A good test of our own ability to focus, listen, discriminate between competing sounds, and remember, is to turn on the weather forecast (no, not the very brief version!), and at the end attempt to recall the information that was given, not just for our own geographical region, but also for other areas of the country. Imagine experiencing one or more of those challenges all the time, but with the added problems of having to ask for repetition, and of coping with the irritation of others when they need to repeat several times. Ask one client to time the conversational turns and another to write this data down. Listen to or watch the piece, jotting down the turn timings.
