ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the endings and suffixes. Although these are classified as strong, weak, batchim, and vowel endings, the endings and suffixes within each class show a great deal of variation, and each ending has to be treated separately. The chapter describes the endings are in index-card-like entries; fortunately there are far fewer endings than verbs. Many of the endings are only used in very special situations and their correct use requires good understanding of Korean language and culture. The National Institute of Korean Language, which is the official regulator of the Korean language, sometimes declares certain forms incorrect in favour of other forms.
