ABSTRACT

This chapter will, accordingly, address literature searching by electronic means and it will, therefore, be assumed that the student is familiar with the use of Web browsers and the Web itself.

THE ACADEMIC LIBRARY

Although the logic of electronic publication would seem to be that most academic libraries will eventually be replaced by large central facilities serving many HE institutions there are too many obstacles to this change for it to happen in the near future. These range from payment to publishers for access to electronically held material through to obtaining agreement among institutions on what such a central facility should comprise. Academic libraries will remain, then, an important resource for students.
