ABSTRACT

The entertainment industry is a mobile, green industry that provides jobs for the trades, new college graduates, and white-collar professions, while simultaneously creating support businesses that can benefit a state. Many states have successfully developed retraining programs to help unemployed workers shift over to the entertainment industry. Every state in the US has at least one college or university offering courses in media production. The support businesses, or vendors, that spring up around the entertainment industry can also contribute greatly to the local economy. In most cases, the entertainment industry is not restricted to one place within a state. Unlike other industries, which build a factory or require a specific location, production of movies and television can happen anywhere within a state and can move from location to location. In addition to being mobile, the entertainment industry is also a clean industry. Green concerns include items such as local transportation, use of utilities, and fuel used by the production.
