ABSTRACT

Men and women are different. Until recently, this difference was one of those things the proverbial "any schoolboy" could be expected to know. Males and females, so it was thought, differed in size, shape, temperament, and intellectual abilities. As men and women are brought into collision in the marketplace, strange things begin to happen. There is no question that men's attitudes and behavior towards women have been changing. Men may be more susceptible to pornography for a very basic reason: sexual dimorphism and differences in sexual "style" both are related to differences in size and numbers of gametes. This chapter argues that if the modern world is suffering from an overdose of abstraction, then what is desperately needed at this point is the influence of women. Social and political theorists since the time of Hobbes have spoken generally of "rights" and "duties" and "justice".
