ABSTRACT
As Shaw states, we are all capable of playing throughout our lives. Play is considered to be vital to human development in many ways, and children need opportunities to play that they can choose for themselves. There are many definitions of play; however, the professionally developed statement by the Playwork Principles Scrutiny Group is the one used by UK playworkers (adults working with children in their play).
