ABSTRACT

Projects are risky. This self-evident and axiomatic assertion is uncontroversial, as anyone who has ever been a project stakeholder or participant would agree. But the simple generic statement hides a range of complex questions that are not so easy to answer for a particular project. For example:

• How risky is this project? • Is this project too risky? • What are the real risks? • Are we sure about our assessment of risk? • What should we do about risk?
