ABSTRACT
In urban design, mapping is often known as the evocative process of getting to know a design site. This chapter discusses the mapping of transport infrastructures, in seeking to contribute to denaturalize them. With its premise based on ‘mobilities design’, the chapter examines operations and attunements in an immersed site mapping experiment in Berlin. Via this case study and looking at four other mapping examples, the paper discusses mapping as an operational tool in mobilities design that contributes to open up a space for knowing about transport infrastructures as multifaceted, relational socio-material environments for fulfilled and diverse lives on the move.
