ABSTRACT

The weather in March 2019 was surprisingly warm and dry, which meant that many children opted to be outdoors for even longer than usual. Even though the resources in the garden have not changed, the children continue to find new ways to use them. Without an adult, the children explore and experiment, supporting each other at times and then working independently at other times. The adults have organised the environment and the resources, they have established a routine which gives the children long periods of time and they have established the expectations about behavior so that each child feels safe. Young children are drawn to balls and will use them in their play in numerous different ways. Indoors, the fascination with water is also evident, as it is every day with children of this age. Mother’s Day and Red Nose Day occurred in March in 2019, and these are two events that the author often asked about.
