ABSTRACT

When corporate or for-profit hospitals came up, they charged a fee for their services, which could not be afforded by everybody. Hospitals survive and thrive only if people utilize their services. So, the need arose for the marketing of hospital services. There have been discussions on the ethics of marketing healthcare services. Some consider it unethical on the part of hospitals or medical practitioners to advertise their services. Gradually, an understanding is developing that there is nothing wrong in making the public aware of the services available in a hospital. Traditionally marketing is considered to be a product of 4Ps: product; price; place; and promotion. Modern marketing focuses on people and their needs. Accordingly, some marketing experts added a 5th "P" to the 4Ps of marketing, denoting "People." Businesses that are planned and designed to fulfill the needs of people are more likely to succeed, and those are the fundamentals of modern marketing.
