ABSTRACT
The test materials for the experimental studies consist of the model suspensions (synthetic slurries) and the flow units. The kaolin slurry was prepared from high quality coating grade kaolin powder. The charge densities of the synthetic flocculants were determined by colloid titration with standard solutions of Poly-Dadmac–Polydimethyldiallylammonium chloride and PES-Na–Polyethylene sulphonate. Colloidal suspension of kaolin was prepared under laboratory conditions by dispersing kaolin powder in deionized water. A poly-dispersed suspension of kaolin and Ferric hydroxide were pre-treated in the vortex reactors by sequential dual-addition of a cationic high molecular weight polymer with low charge activity and a high molecular weight non-ionic polymer at a mixing speed of 155, 175, and 195 rpm for about 45s was followed by a further mixing time of 5, 10, 15 and 20 mins at slower speed of 145, 165, 185 rpm respectively.
