ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the likely impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on Mauritian industry, workplaces, jobs and employees. It aims to assess the preparedness of the government, industry managers and higher and vocational education systems to effectively address the inevitable challenges in this small island developing country context. The Republic of Mauritius is a small island economy in the Indian Ocean located off the south-eastern coast of Africa and east of Madagascar. It has a total surface area of around 2011 square kilometres, with the island of Mauritius and Rodrigues, being the main territories in size and economic activity. Due to its many small outer islands, Mauritius has a large exclusive economic zone of 2.3 million square kilometres, and since 2012 it shares with the Seychelles jurisdiction over an area of 396,000 square kilometres of the Continental Shelf.
