ABSTRACT

Accurate and reliable assessment of outcomes related to the prevention and management of obesity in children and adolescents is essential to achieving the recommended goals of improving physical health through the attainment of permanent healthy lifestyle behaviors (Barlow et al., 2007; Eisenmann et al., 2011; Krebs et al., 2007; Table 8.1). Measurements obtained before and aer participation in an exercise program are necessary to determine whether selected modalities, volumes, and intensities were adequate and appropriate to meeting the goals of achieving a healthier weight and improvement of body composition and related metabolic parameters (Krebs & Sothern, 2006; Sothern, 2006). is chapter includes appropriate and reliable protocols for measuring outcomes before and aer participation in exercise interventions.
