ABSTRACT
On a scale of 1–10, where 1 is difficult and 10 is easy, how do you feel about following basic ‘mechanical rules’ of conversations such as:
• being in the right place for a conversation?
• understanding the conversation partner and asking for clarification?
• avoiding interruptions (in both directions, ie where they interrupt you and where you find yourself interrupting them)?
• taking turns of the right length?
• staying on the subject versus introducing a new topic?
• linking your comment to the preceding one?
