ABSTRACT

Yvonne was one of my earliest cases and a failure, in that she came for just a few sessions and then left. It was an encounter that, although brief, left me deeply disturbed. She was a young woman in her middle twenties, the daughter of a doctor. Even in our first session it became evident how intensely attached she was to her father, although they seemed to be constantly quarrelling. She was even more preoccupied with a young man with whom she said she was in love. She felt he was growing indifferent to her and she spoke quite obsessively about her fear of losing him.
