ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on the medical issues seen in players who have retired from the game. Issues related to neurological dysfunction will be a major discussion point of this chapter, as well as issues related to metabolic syndrome and obesity. A focus will be on the potential debilitating effects of concussion and the advent of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a disease that has caused many neurodegenerative issues reported in former college and professional football players.
