This chapter introduces Franz von Stuck with a thorough analysis of The Sin, another controversial portrait that shows a nude woman with a snake wrapped around the torso and baring its teeth toward the spectator. This chapter includes a discussion of the Symbolist Movement and why the Medusa image became so popular in this genre of painting.
