ABSTRACT
This chapter gives an overview of the requirements set out in the process sector specific standard IEC 61511.
The standard was issued at the beginning of 2003 and is in three parts:
Part 1 The normative standard Part 2 Informative guidance on Part 1 Part 3 Informative guidance on hazard and risk analysis
Part 1 of the standard covers the life-cycle including:
Management of Functional Safety Hazard and Risk Analysis
Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) Design through to
SIS decommissioning
The standard is intended for the activities of SIS system level designers, integrators and users in the process industry.
