ABSTRACT

Bucknell University’s Department of Theatre and Dance graduates about seven to 12 majors and about ten to 20 minors in any given year. In addition to these students authors also teach dozens of non-majors annually who enjoy taking Theatre, Dance, and Design classes and/or acting or taking technical positions in productions. Many of these students (sometimes majors, sometimes minors – sometimes neither) go on to pursue careers in performance. Even if they choose not to pursue the professional field or not to pursue it long-term, the authors strive to offer each of them the best possible foundations for creating meaningful work consistently. First-semester first-year students at Bucknell are introduced to the acting program through Stanislavsky, offering scene and character analysis which is integral to all the methods the authors study.
