ABSTRACT

This chapter presents excerpts from the novel Memoirs of the Life and Travels of the Late Charles Macpherson. It provides an account of the life of the hero Charles Macpherson. The novel narrates the hero's education, career, and amorous inclinations towards Mrs. Penguin as well as towards a young French girl, Antoinette. The Scot-baiting and tyrannical Penguin is exposed in the novel as a cowardly and jealous wife-beater.
