ABSTRACT
In the area of computing, the only thing that seems to increase faster than processing speed is the need for ever more processing speed. The last few decades have seen cycle times move from milliseconds to nanoseconds, yet applications ranging from medical research to graphics to military applications, to the design of the processing chips themselves have resulted in a demand for faster processing than is available.
