ABSTRACT

What does it feel like to be a person? H o w can we understand the subjective life worlds of other individuals? To what extent are the methods and theories of empirical social psychology applicable to understanding the subjective experiences of others? What are the key mechanisms that explain how and w h y subjective experiences influence our thinking and behaviors? We started this book by posing several ambitious questions like this. It is now time to take stock, and to review how much we were able to achieve and what remains to be done.
