ABSTRACT
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are interlinked and by design ‘indivisible’. Some of their governance challenges are common, but they also have their own typical challenges. The literature on sustainability governance presents examples of design, management, failures and solutions for each of the goals and combinations of them (including nexus themes). In this chapter the governance targets of each SDG are briefly analysed with a metagovernance lens. The chapter then hints at possible avenues for developing governance frameworks for each of the goals, starting with the dedicated governance Goals 16 and 17, then discussing three groups of Goals that are clustered, respectively, around well-being of people; production, distribution and delivery of goods and services; and the conditions of the natural environment. The chapter concludes with an overview of how the nexus approach is being used to connect different Goals and how metagovernance can support this.
