ABSTRACT

Errors made in sampling may result in unusable data. Proper field sampling and then handling of samples from the field and their preparation are the first steps for ensuring data of the highest quality. This needs to be considered regardless of the planned measurements to be made. Well-executed sample plans and proper sampling techniques can still result in data of little value if the samples are not properly prepared, stored, and/or recorded. This chapter covers methodology for the sampling of soils for carbon determinations. The procedures discussed may be applied to other soil analytical determinations.
