This chapter provides guidance to the often confusing terminology surrounding ‘methodology’ and ‘methods’, providing working definitions for each. It explains and provides examples of how ontological, epistemological, ideological and ethical positions might shape methodology and methods, and connects these further to the various purposes of planning research.
