ABSTRACT

A unique planner rectangular microstrip patch antenna operating in Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band of frequency 2.45 GHz is presented in this article. Cross type fractal and groove structure is being incorporated in the structure during different iterations in order to improve its performance in terms of gain, directivity, bandwidth, return loss etc and also in terms of effective size reduction of the patch. Different iterations of the designed antenna are simulated using IE3D. The resultant antenna structure with patch and groove operates exactly in ISM band with centre frequency 2.42 GHz, return loss of -36.37 dB and a gain of around 4 dB. A comparison table of return loss, bandwidth, gain, directivity, VSWR, radiation pattern and overall area of the patch is also presented in this paper. From the table it is clearly observed that the antenna performance is much improved after the introduction of groove in the structure
