ABSTRACT

Miss Ethelred Benett created a remarkable collection of fossils through her activities in Wiltshire, southern England, during the 1810s, 1820s and 1830s. Part of this collection is now housed in the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, having been purchased and donated by T. B. Wilson in the late 1840s. The whereabouts of the rest remains as yet unclear. The collection originally contained thousands of specimens, mostly from the Jurassic-Cretaceous strata local to Wiltshire.
