ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with a short description and explication of a social psychological theory as a rational actor theory and a more detailed description of the interventions studied: the semester ticket and the university circle line. It aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the measure "semester ticket" and "university circle line". The chapter examines the specification, testing and interpretation of a structural equation model for the data from the three-wave panel study. It provides an often neglected point in the empirical testing of rational choice models: The differentiation between measurement model, structural model of the substantive theory, and action theory for intervention purposes. The original formulation of the theory leads to a static model that can be tested by a system of linear equations. The actual travel mode behavior was measured by the use of an established standardized protocol of all the routes a person used each day in chronological order.
