ABSTRACT

A teacher using a video playback of a broadcast might attempt to deal with sequences through secondary stop/start or even basic stop/start but the format of a programme does make this awkward. The teachers were asked to summarize their views on the experiment and to comment on how they saw television and the video recorder being used in the primary school classroom. Because of the modular approach and the effective use of secondary stop/start, a great deal of profitable discussion took place. Teachers at present are restricted in the use of the modular approach, owing to a lack of suitable tapes in the modular form being available to them. The work which the authors described was only in pilot form and not suitable for general distribution but on the basis of the results of the experiment they have embarked on a major project to produce modular material for primary schools.
