ABSTRACT

The monitoring of the structural response of the church, aimed at controlling the permanence over time of the structural performances both of the building as a whole and of the repairs and improvements made during the restoration, can benefit from the flow of data provided by the on-site monitoring system. The proposed monitoring system takes into account not only the interventions of repair and seismic improvement but also the studies carried out in previous survey campaigns and the acquired knowledge about the structural behavior of the church during the restoration works. The proposed monitoring system allows keeping under constant control the stress level in the main structures of nave, aisles, transept and central area, the behavior of glued or differently joined prostheses, the wood moisture contents, useful to prevent and keep under observation possible phenomena of wood degradation. It consists of wood moisture content sensors at the support on the walls and clinometers and accelerometers on trusses.
