ABSTRACT
The article briefly discusses some problems and challenges of the epigraphic evidence for the Christian history of the region of Panopolis. Sofia Schaten focuses on a large group of tombstones from late antique Panopolis, which are intriguing on account of their idiosyncrasy, whereas Jacques van der Vliet reviews the rich and varied record from the White Monastery, perhaps the most impressive Christian site of Egypt.
