ABSTRACT

If we carefully examine history, it is apparent that most

human endeavors focus on risk management. From the

earliest of times, hunter-gatherers managed the risks of an

inconsistent food supply by adapting to an agrarian life-

style only to find a new set of risks to manage as an agrarian

society. Not only do we attempt to manage risk in our

physical world, but we as well assume we can manage

risks outside of our physical world. Religions set forth

varying strategies to help us navigate the risks of an

unknown length of life and prepare for success in the

afterlife, based on what our perceptions of the afterlife

would, could, or should be.
