ABSTRACT

Another important availability-level consideration is in

the expression of availability. While the availability level

is most often expressed as a percent, it is important to

consider what the percentage represents. For example, an

availability level of 99.1% for a 30 day month means that

the service provider can have the following outage duration

per month:

30 days 24 hours=day 0:009; or 6:48 hours

This means that an organization needs to examine

availability expressed as a percentage and convert that

percentage into a time period. Then, one needs to ask if

the organization is willing to allow the service provider to

have, as per this example, almost seven hours of access

outages per month.
