ABSTRACT

Statistics involves the collection and presentation of data in different forms. The ability to select the appropriate display form is just as important as collecting the data. In presenting numeric data, the need for approximation comes about because obtaining accurate measure of items is often not possible. This will result in errors that can affect the validity and accuracy of the information presented. Rounding error occurs when an absolute measure is impossible, so we round up or down or to the nearest round amount. A cumulative frequency table is used to show the total number of times that a value above or below a certain amount occurs. Instead of presenting information in a table, giving a visual display as a chart or graph might be preferable. Pie charts are used to show the relative size of the components of a total. Statistical maps or cartographic maps, may be used to display geographical data.
