ABSTRACT

Although its main focus is function transformations, this book would not be complete without a discussion of an equally important concept, namely, sequence transformations. After all, the two are intimately related, as pointed out in Chapter 4 ; see also Appendix A. For example, in many practical situations, instead of applying a transformation directly to a function, a sequence of numbers is extracted first from the function, then an appropriate transformation is applied to that sequence. The transform of the sequence is then used to reconstruct the transform of the function. Speed and economics are usually the reason for favoring sequence transformations over function transformations.
